On 19 December 1933, a solemn launch of Nizhne-Svirskaya hydroelectric plant, the world’s first power plant constructed on floating soil, Devonian clays, took place. In the winter of 1942, the employees of Lenenergo paved four threads of cable 10 kV in besieged Leningrad. This cable in length more than 100 km was later called a «life cable» – due to this unique technical solution power blockade was broken and Leningrad survived.

During the great Patriotic war Lenenergo suffered significant damage: two-thirds of the power grid were lost. Within creation of the uniform electric grid company JSC Lenenergo acquired CJSC TSEC (96.95% from the authorized capital) and CJSC Kurortenergo (98.13% from the authorized capital). The Agency for strategic initiatives selected JSC Lenenergo to be its partner in the implementation of the roadmap of the project «Increase of energy infrastructure availability».
